Open studio preparation

bird.jpg

So I've ordered 6 cases of these drinking bird toys for a project... hilarious. That's 72 total. Add that to the 2,000 LEDs I ordered a few weeks ago... I was going to get 10,000 but I figured I should exercise some restraint.

Logging lots of time in the studio these days, building a nice rhythm. Doing mainly constructions, machines, and some drawing; painting seems a remote activity. Feels like the backlog of ideas and energy is finally moving. It's useful to have a deadline of sorts - in this case the Somerville Open Studios, May 6 + 7th. My interest in exhibiting in recent years has been rather flat but one thing a show is good for is prioritizing and focus.

I've always seemed to need or want to spend lots of time in the studio, and have been able to do that for quite extended periods at different points. There is an intensity that builds up day after day, a focus or flow which makes sense to me and was not available with the short bits of time leftover from the hi-tech day jobs. It seems like its time to start showing again and doing that whole exhibit/grant paper chase, if only to make space in the studio and be able to work on the scale I want.

So... too many projects going on (that's good) and the studio is feeling very cramped (that's bad). Wanting more scale than I have room for. Six more months on my various leases; maybe I will make a move.
